An Efficient Interface:

Connecting design and assembly teams

Despite stringent design specifications, reviews and failure modes & effects analysis (FMEAs), the assembly processes do not always run as smoothly as one would predict. When problems do occur in assembly or production, any resulting delays can be costly, as they take up tool time, additional resource and design teams need to travel to the assembly location to assist with fault finding and corrective actions.

We think that technology, such as virtual or augmented reality could assist with ensuring that any potential problems faced in assembly can be dealt with quickly by using an effective interface between production and design teams. However, such an interface must be seamless and allow the design teams to visualise the problem clearly, remotely, securely and reliably. Any errors made during the problem solving phase could prove costly.
