Tackling declining ore grades
Head grades of valuable mineral are declining globally. The effect of this on the mining industry is a need to mine and process more rock in order to produce an equivalent amount of value mineral. This results in significant increases in energy consumption, maintenance costs and lead-times, as plants must “work harder” to produce equivalent output of concentrate.
Selective mining solutions (selecting high-grade ore and leaving low-grade ore in the mine) already exist and we are looking for smarter technologies to implement within the processing plants to extract valuable minerals from rocks more sustainably and efficiently. The right solution will need to be compatible with plants that process up to 5000 tonnes of ore per hour.
