Smart Power:

Predictive solutions for load management

The number of aircraft that are in the air at any one time is set to increase. To avoid a threat to our quality of life and to ensure the sustainability of our environment, a strong focus is needed to increase energy efficiency and reduce NOx emissions globally. Both More Electric Aircraft (MEA) and eventually fully electric aircraft aim to tackle the effects of noise and air pollution due to air travel, but both technologies face tough challenges in power management.

The electric power that is available is already under strain due to the existing complexity of power demands from various loads and the added weight of power electronics boxes, electro-magnetic interference (EMI) filters and power converters required for electric aircraft. Improved methods of monitoring, predicting and managing power are needed to deliver fully electric aircraft of the future.
