In his current role with the Welsh Government Ifan leads healthcare policy for technology, innovation, and industry engagement, working across government and with external partners in the academic, business, clinical and investor communities. Previously he was Deputy Director, Life Sciences, where he was responsible for developing a new strategy to support the Welsh life sciences sector, including establishing the Welsh Life Sciences Investment Fund and Welsh Life Sciences Hub, and working with health boards and trusts to jointly fund a new Welsh Wound Innovation Centre.
Ifan’s first degree was in history from Oxford University. He has Masters degrees from Aberystwyth University and Cardiff Business School, was a lead Impact Assessor for the 2014 Research Excellence Framework assessment of UK universities, and is an Associate Professor at Swansea University College of Medicine. He has extensive private sector experience, having led businesses in the retail, leisure, tourism and property sectors, and has also served on the boards of a number of social enterprises.
