Prof Johann Sienz, Personal Chair, College of Engineering, Swansea University / Director ASTUTE
Professor Sienz holds a Personal Chair in the College of Engineering at Swansea University, where he is the Director of Innovation and Engagement. He is the Director of the WEFO part-funded, pan Wales Advanced Sustainable Manufacturing Technologies (ASTUTE) projects, the EPSRC funded doctoral training centre MATTER (Manufacturing Advances Through Engineering Training), and the WEFO part-funded IMPACT (Innovative Materials, Processing and Numerical Technologies) Research Institute. Johann delivers Smart Manufacturing in the Swansea Bay Region City Deal through the ASTUTE – Factory of the Future project. Johann is actively involved in advanced and smart manufacturing research, development and innovation working always in close collaboration with industry, covering aspects of industry 4.0, robotics and automation, additive manufacture, structural and multidisciplinary shape and topology optimization, computational mechanics, and process simulation and improvement. Johann is a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (FIMechE) and of the Royal Aeronautical Society (FRAeS), and a Member of the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications (MIMA). He is a Chartered Engineer (CEng) and a Chartered Mathematician (CMath). He is the Editor in Chief of the highly regarded international journal “Applied Mathematical Modelling”.
