Paul joined RTLS in September 2005 to focus on undertaking research and development into Active RFID devices for asset tracking, wireless sensors and retail in the ISM band, delivering a proprietary patented ultra low power ISM band system in 2007.
The first Active RFID solution was for the in house requirement of tracking and tracing of aluminum cores for the paper industry, further applications broadened the scope to include vehicle and trailer tracking in the logistics industry, then completing the circle by enabling on vehicle asset reading and delivery allocation using the propriety technology and mobile Active RFID readers.
Paul’s current focus as RFID Technical Manager is on incorporating ultra low power methods of achiving ever further read ranges, location granularity and energy harvesting using emerging standards and technology, through interval developments and collaboration.
Additionally, Paul finds the time to demonstrate and present on topics such as IoT, IIoT, wireless standards, and collaborate in design and innovation projects with government and academic schemes.
Paul was born and educated in Plymouth, reciving numerous national awards in design and technology before studying Electrical and Electronics Engineering focusing on embedded coding with microcontroller design where he received a first class degree. Paul then continued his academic career receiving a
Ph.D. with a thesis entitled Magnetic Field Sensor Utilizing Magneto Impedance in Thin Film multilayers as well as presenting papers internationally.
Paul’s hobbies include Photography, Cycling and Nature.
Paul splits his time between Kent and Plymouth where is partner lives.
